Vista Edition Yahoo Messenger: Don’t Hold Your Breath

Apr 30 2008 / 11:30 pm Was written by Amber View Comments

It sounds like a good idea: touch up a messenger for the new OS and it should clean up some problems. but why? There really is not much of a reason to use proprietary instant messenger systems anymore. I do not have contacts that only use one of the big named messengers, and neither do most people who IM. There are perfectly good multi-tools out for every flavor of OS. Adium, Pidgin , Digsby and others are great examples. Quit using one trick ponies and hook up a big rig (which usually consume less resources on you computer than the big brands).

Modular Robot Toys or Robot Overlords

Apr 29 2008 / 4:43 pm Was written by Amber View Comments

Some silly kids have decided to build modular robots which reassemble themselves. Have there not been enough robots are going to kill us themed movies and tv shows for them to get the point?

SIMable: Free Your Phone

Apr 29 2008 / 4:11 pm Was written by Amber View Comments

The other day I talked about hooking your mobile up with a second sim so you could make the best of your money. In a similar vein, the folks who produce SIMable want you to be able to keep your favorite handset even though you want to switch carriers. SIMable is a chip that attaches to the back of your sim and tricks the phone into thinking its no longer locked to the carrier. Its £16.99 and it appears they are looking for worldwide resellers.

Planex DigiJuke NAS

Apr 28 2008 / 11:38 pm Was written by Amber View Comments

We all love having piles of media at our disposal. The Planex DigiJuke NAS serves it up with style and supports basically any format you need. To top things off, if you dont already have a terabyte lying around it has 2 500GB drives to salivate over packed inside. Since these can be swapped out it sounds like a decent $524 plan. The media can automatically be converted for your Xbox 360, iPod, Wii, whatever. If you have the cash, have at it—Just don’t do something illegal in the process so one gets hurt.

BSG Recap

Apr 28 2008 / 12:31 pm Was written by Amber View Comments

Army of Two is keeping me at the local Xbox360 so I have been slightly neglecting this space a little. My apologies for this time especially since GTA IV, the Iron Man movie and local social events are upon us. Enjoy a Battlestar Galactica recap and think happy thoughts. Also if you do not have cable television Scifi.com and Hulu.com post full episodes shortly after they air.

DuoSim: Be Efficiently Cheap

Apr 26 2008 / 2:52 pm Was written by Amber View Comments

We all love saving a few bucks here and there, especially with the current local financial state. Why not check out the little product in the video below and trick out your phone with two sim cards: one for Company A who has the awesomely low budget voice plan; 2nd for Company B with the fantastically priced data plan…sounds like a good plan? DuoSIM thinks so. That you can even try some of their other solutions.
