We all love getting our hands on a good piece of software, some of us are even willing to shell out a few bucks for it.  Well this is why Software Saturday was born. Freeware/Shareware/ Payware needs a home and we want to help. We will showcase them in every edition of Software Saturday. This time we showcase the underloved apps. Notepad ++ , Filezilla, Miro, Comodo Firewall, Songza. All the apps this week are freeware…cuz thats how I like it.

Notepad ++

Such a lovely app. Notepad for programmers and coders. The lines are numbered so you can figure out what line WordPress is talking about when it gives you that error. Since my PHP education is self taught this saves me lots of time when I break my plugins. This software is unloved because mostly the coders and the nerdy folk flock to it, but Notepad+Tabs=Win for Everyone. You can also theme it if you don’t like to code in black on white. You must have to have this.

Filezilla

At this point, everyone and their mom has a blog hanging out somewhere, and Filezilla is there to save you from having to use your webhost’s dreadful UI. Click, click done. I use this interface for anyone I decide to help out with their site and i hope you do to. it is not the most perfect, but there is a portable version for a little quick fix on the fly.

Miro

A nice functional DVR type interface for your PC. Just set the vid to record and call it a day. Open source internet TV. They have quite a few channels, you really want to check them out. I would add more, but I need to get to my Charmed here in a minute.

Comodo Firewall

Windows Firewall just not enough for you? Tired of paying big name companies to block your internet connection because you like games they don’t? Well Comodo Firewall my be the help you need. It’s free; lets you set it in a learning mode where it can scan your current programs and not bug the daylights out of you; and if you run some vulnerability software on it, it locks everything down and tells you all about it.
