What is a Simian Downtime Analyst? Who is the Outage Monkey?
Well…. a little while back was working with a crew of folks on the graveyard shift doing the support thing. It was a time period where there were some equipment upgrades being done by the company in a certain area. The clients in the area had received a decent sized warning and there was a recorded message stating what was going on. Clients still called in constantly, despite all the warnings/advisories and already having called multiple times. Frustrated one of the crew just said “Why don’t we just send those people to a extension with a monkey, who just makes noises into the phone. We could just transfer them to the Outage Monkey.”
The joke persisted, the whole crew referred to themselves as Outage Monkeys, since it did not sound good as an official title, Simian Downtime Analyst was thought up for the crew to sound more professional.
