Social networks have evolved greatly in the past few years. I find it quite refreshing since they began as a few niche networks that they are working their way back to this model. Back in the origins of Myspace and Bebo and Facebook, many folks signed up to be ahead of the curve and chat with people of the same mindset. Unfortunately for them, it was like a catchy song and some time after they were overrun with crappy profile pages, crappy bands, spam, and crappy company branded ad pages.
Once again needing a safe haven, these folks decided to write software that would help others get away from the people they could not stand. Enter Ning, Kickapps and the other white label social networking solutions as well as the open source brigade. Read the rest of this entry »

Shameless indeed.
But seriously loved the tool, easy to use. It is so because the comic panel creator is part of a set of tools from the kids website Jambav

Been meaning to drop a post about Zemanta for a little while now since we use this service for almost all of the posts here at The SDA. When the site first opened up the biggest challenge was finding the best way to not have to tag the entries myself. Various auto-tagger plugins just were not very efficient or required me to join to get an API for yet another service that was not worth squat.
In strolls the lovely dear Zemanta a little while back and I am hooked. Not only does it make automatic suggestions of tags that are actually relevant, it also suggests links and related photos/articles for the occasion as well. While the photo gallery requires at least the 300 character minimum for auto suggestion to be anywhere near accurate, there is an option to tell Zemanta to suggest the links and tags with far less information without sacrificing quality. Yes Please! I’d like some Raw Milk The James said with glee!
Over the years, milk has been pasteurized for your health. Milk does have a lot of pathogens that can cause harm, but is it more dangerous to drink raw milk than it is to go walking through the Falls of the Ohio? In my opinion no.
If the cow is well taken care of, in a safe environment etc.. Then the risk of diseases is minimal compared to working in a place where someone can come in with bronchitis, meningitis, the common cold and the Plague. Hell, just living is dangerous, so why can’t I partake in something I would like to drink?
Seriously, look at this, Orange Juice is pasteurized to kill harmful things, but yet we consume raw oranges. We eat hot dogs and sausages that are made from this that and the other thing, but we’re concerned about a possible pathogen in raw milk? Milk that had been consumed for thousands of years without the whole worlds population dying off? Read the rest of this entry »

Do you want a browser that does everything right out of the box….and I mean everything? Like I’m not gonna list it all and just link you everything. It does enough stuff for me to be frightened of it. It can also be customized to where it does not take up as much screen real estate as the picture above. The multi-tool that does not need tweaking….via DownloadSquad

Saw this neat screensaver over at Dvice. Think its called the Drop Clock, it shows the time dropping into water and shows the reactions in slow motion. Its pretty :
If you still actually use screensavers this one is available for dl here, it just costs $15 to buy.

If you actually have Vista, first let me commend you on your levels of patience. Second if you have media center, there is a third party app called Yougle adds YouTube, Flickr, DailyMotion, and Yahoo!Music to it. Sounds pretty sweet.

The AOL reps claim that they are working on a new strategy to work AIM in directly with a social network. They bought Bebo yesterday. AOL seems to be working hard on distancing themselves from the crappy dial-up service days. I wish them luck.
