Unfortunately, current society has lost much of its inclination toward altruism. It feels like nobody wants to lend anyone a hand anymore without reaching for money with the other one. In rare cases, people band together for the common good. One of those cases occurred on Friendfeed called Free Hour.

Whoever needs help can post a question (one needs to be a member of friendfeed to do this, but there is no further obligation to the service afterwards) and there is a lovely list of folks who are ready to help out. There is even a wiki open giving further details about the participants.
